Captain Mark K. Lane

Captain Mark K. Lane, Senior Vice President of Operations at Excelerate Energy, is a Master Mariner licensed by the United States Coast Guard to command ships of unlimited size and unlimited horsepower on any waters of the world. Captain Lane has been sailing as a licensed merchant officer since 1979, accumulating more than 4,000 days of documented sea time on merchant ships and thousands of days of undocumented time on offshore supply vessels, large private yachts, competitive sailing yachts and smaller, privately owned pleasure craft. Captain Lane has served as “Master-in-Command” of LNG carriers, Panamax bulk carriers, offshore supply vessels and large private yachts.

Captain Lane has completed voyages around the world, including passages into the North Sea, Baltic Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Japan Sea, Yellow Sea, South China Sea, Red Sea, Arabian Sea and Persian Gulf. He has also made passages across the four oceans of the world, with numerous transits through some of the most heavily trafficked confined waters in the world, including the Singapore Strait, Malacca Strait, English Channel and Strait of Gibraltar.

Captain Lane graduated from Maine Maritime Academy, one of the leading maritime academies in the world, in 1979, with high honors. There, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nautical Science and completed a minor concentration of study in Business Administration and Transportation. For a while at Maine Maritime Academy, he served as Regimental Commander, the Captain of the Cadet Corps.

Captain Lane was a member in good standing of the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association, one of the largest merchant marine officer associations in the United States, for more than 28 years. He is currently a member of the Nautical Institute, an international organization of professional mariners based in the United Kingdom; the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers; the Council of American Master Mariners; and the American Boat and Yacht Council.

Before coming to Excelerate Energy, Captain Lane provided professional services to firms such as BG LNG Services, a subsidiary of the former British Gas, Texas, Coastal Corporation; SeaRiver Maritime, a subsidiary of Exxon/Mobil; Freeport Macmoran; Tidewater Marine; and law firms in Florida, Louisiana and New York.
